Info about the test probes voltage tester
(PAN Volttester 400 / PAN Volttester 400FI /(PAN MV-690A) / (PAN MV-690B) / PAN MV-1000A/ PAN MV-1000AD)
According to the EU standard EN 61010, the following applies to multimeters: the bare length of the test probes for measurement category CAT III (measurements in the building installation) and CAT IV (measurements at the source of the low-voltage installation, e.g. meters, primary overcurrent protection devices, ripple control devices) may not exceed 4 mm.
Since 4 mm tips are often too short to reach the contacts of a socket, for example, we offer removable protective caps as a practical solution.
Without the cap, the bare length is max. 19 mm and the device only corresponds to CAT II (measurements on circuits that are directly electrically connected to the low-voltage network).
This regulation does NOT apply to voltage testers, as they do not have to comply with EN 61010, but rather with EN 61243. Voltage testers may therefore have test probes with a length of 19 mm, even in measurement categories III and IV.
However, on the recommendation of the TGM testing institute, we also apply the stricter regulations for multimeters to our voltage testers, although this is not required by law. Therefore, CAT III is embossed on the removable caps, which reduce the bare length of the tips to 4 mm. As soon as you pull these caps off, CAT II appears underneath.
All PANCONTROL voltage testers in any case correspond to the Requirements of EN 61243 for CAT III for the respective impressed voltage, regardless of whether with or without caps.
